Look around your home (inside & out) as if you were looking
through the eyes of a stranger. Does your home look clean and comfortable? Does it look like a place you can sit down and
relax in? If the answer is "NO", then you'll need to address the issues that are making your home a stressful
place to be in.
If you never get started trying to organize your space, because everywhere you look is cluttered,
then start small. Choose a drawer in your kitchen, a closet in the hallway, or a box in your basement. Do not attempt to do
a whole room at once. It will overwhelm you and make you give up.
Try to spend at least 30 minutes a day decluttering
a small area. Start increasing the amount of time spent as you start to gain confidence and see the light at the end of the
tunnel. Set realistic goals for yourself.
If you definitely feel you can't do it alone, enlist the help of
friends and family to help you. If there's no one to help you, you should enlist the help of a professional.

DeClutter Step 2
Tip #1: If it's been buried at the bottom of your closet
or been shoved at the top of a shelf for months if not years, then you DON'T NEED IT. DONATE IT!
Tip #2:
If you have lots of paper around, especially old bills, old cuttings, old newspapers & magazines, they are just taking
up valuable space. RECYCLE THEM!
Tip #3: Clothing too big or too small filling up your closets for years...Be
realistic. You'll NEVER FIT back into them. DONATE THEM!
Tip #4: How many pairs of shoes/boots do you
really need? DONATE THEM!
Tip #5: If your kitchen cupboards are filled with too many dishes, cups, glasses,
then you should cut back to an amount reasonable for the size of your family. Extras should be donated to people who have
none.
Tip #6: Cars and tools belong in the garage. If you have material left over from an old renovation
project, donate it to Habitat Store. If you have metal, take it to the scrap yard--you can make some money from
it.
Tip #7: Furniture that belonged to your parents and grandparents and is just collecting dust in
your basement can be put to better use with family's in need.
Tip #8: Place like and
like together. If you have a drawer in the kitchen with kitchen utensils, office supplies and tools, make sure that
they are all given a home in the appropriate place. Baskets and trays are very useful for putting like items together,
when you lack cupboard or drawer space.
Tip #9: All valuable keepsakes should be kept in plastic
storage containers, especially if they are stored in basements, garages or attics. Using carboard boxes in these spaces leads
to dust and mold and heath issues.
Tip #10: Put things back in the right place right away, to avoid wasting
time looking for them later. Do not put off doing things or they will pile up and overwhelm you later.
